Photographer Focus: Mariann Nikolaisen

Living in Norway, Mariann photographs her environment perfectly, focusing on the quiet landscape around her. Primarily producing black and white images, the colors, or lack thereof, really emulate the calm, lonely, and sometimes even morose feeling of her photos. location Fredrikstad, Norway.
favorite camera I only have one camera - my Canon 400D. And my iPhone, of course.
favorite subject matter to shoot Whatever inspires me at the moment. Depending on my mood and "location".
photographers you admire I've only recently started "studying" photography, including looking into famous photograper's work...so many wonderful gifted ones. I admire many of them. Right now I'm reading a book about the great norwegian photographer Kåre Kivijärvi, and I'm quite intrigued by his work. Also I'm inspired by many of my contacts on Flickr, some very generous people around there.
what makes a great photo That's a hard thing to answer...but I guess a photograph that touches or/and evokes an interest for the subject. That has something that speaks to you on a personal level - has soul...A photograph that has something that makes you want to look at it over and over and over again - maybe even hang it on your wall...to own it.
what makes a terrible photo No soul - no heart - no connection. In other words; the opposite of the former answer.
why do you love photography I've only been into photography for a little more than a year, but it has made my life better in so many ways. Suddenly I feel so "right", and that I finally have found my place in this world. I'm allowed to be as eccentric as I want to ... ;)
do you do any other art? I used to paint with watercolor, but I must say that photography fits my energy levels much better.
